Today’s Scripture

1 Corithians 13:8-12

“Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”

Paul gives us a great reassurance in these verses.  The comparison is between the eternality of love and the temporal quality of prophecies, tongues, and knowledge. Those will pass away because they will no longer be necessary; but love is eternal because the Author of Love is eternal.

We only know in part now, much like children only know what they’ve been exposed to; and we only see the ways of our Father dimly. His ways are mysterious to us. But, when this world passes away, and we live in eternity with our Lord and King, we will no longer be relegated to just knowing in part, we will then know fully, as our Father has always known us fully.

Daily Meditation:

Am I resting in the fact that God knows me fully and loves me fully and has loved me from all eternity?

Lord, grant me the peace to rest in your eternal love, Please give me patience as I only see into this mirror ever so dimly, knowing one day I shall know as fully as you know me now. Amen.
